Surfing Mazatlan – Come and let our expert surf guides show you some of the best waves in the Mexico Pacific coast. Surfing Mazatlan offers world class waves and the best thing about these waves is that only a few people know where to find them. We're sure that you have heard of Puerto Escondido, San Miguel, and Ixtapa, but so has everyone else. That's what makes Surf in Mazatlan unique, because chances are you will be the only one in the water. All the way from beginner to pro, the waves here are more than pictures, they are some of the best waves in Mexico.
Surfing Season
The best season for big swells is April to October, however November to March the conditions are not bad (best time for beginners), but you might want to bring your wet suit
The surf spots:
Surf spot No 1 – A great left pointbreak breaking wave with ideal power for intermediate and advanced surfers at the main point and for beginners at its second point. Veneno, on the other hand, is a mellower wave where shortboards and longboards can often get over 250 yards rides.
Surf Spot No 2 – One of the best beach breaks of the area. On the right swell and conditions you can have a wonderful day at this break getting tubbed several times, depending on your skill level, on its good sized, nicely shaped, consistent and strong peaks.
Surf Spot No 3 – This is a pointbreak, As soon as the river starts to flow into the sea good waves come out at this break, even though you have to wait until after the first storms come to an end due to the logs and the rest of the hazards that the river drags along with him down the mountains.
Surf Spot No 4 – This is a left hand pointbreak, a World Class wave, with a very tricky takeoff at the main point. At its first section you may often find yourself with headhigh and overhead tubes, especially at low tide, that are the very best around here. This wave is always good to be surfed and provides very long rides. Longboards can surf this break at its second point, it provides rides over 150 yards sometimes even over 350 yards or more. This is the best!!
Surf Spot No 5 – Right at the shores of the town of Celestino Gasca, there´s a nice left breaking wave ideal for longboarding, yet with several ripeable sections. Be warned that given the right swell and conditions this wave lights up and turns into an outstanding wave.
Surf Spot No 6 – Both left and right breaking waves at this break, during the raining season the river´s draft breaks up the sand bar producing very nice waves with hollow tubes.
Surf Spot No 7 – A Wide beach break with two main spots one with mellow waves and the second one known as “Tractores” with steeper and hollower waves ideal for intermediate and advanced level surfers. It works best at medium-low tide on the rise with moderate swells.
Surf Spot No 8 - A left hand pointbreak with a wave that provides an over 150 yards ride, on optimal conditions even over 300 yards long. It can be surfed on 3foot swells up to 9 foot swells. When all the right conditions meet it is a very nice left breaking wave that has been surfed along the years by several generations of local and international surfers that have made this wave famous
Surf Spot No 9 – A reef pointbreak, this spot can handle very big swells (From 3 ft up to 12ft), with waves that provide a ride 100 ft long up to 200 ft long depending on the conditions.
At this point the waves break very far away from the beach, this wave is ideal for longboards.
Surf in the city of Mazatlan.
South of Stone Island in between “picos” and “Estrella de Mar” you can find very nice peaks that have a nice A frame shape on days with decent sized swells. Even though the ride is short it is a very fun wave to surf.
Stone Island´s Peaks A very good beach break where you can easily know when the set is coming since the break is right in front of “El Cardon” where the oncoming waves break way beforehand and will be further turned into peaks by the sandbars.
“ESCOLLERA” There´s a lot to be said about this wave. There are very few right breaking waves in the area that break as good as this spot. This break can handle even the biggest days. It is located in Stone Island right beside “Goat Hill”.
The wave has a very hollow shape and lots of strength. It provides a fast, powerful short ride, but at low or medium low tide it just rocks!
Olas Altas A good left breaking wave, it can get pretty crowded sometimes. This spot Works only on very special conditions and it provides a short but nicely shaped wave.
Los Pinos A left breaking wave that requires big swells to unleash its full power, but that you can surf even on medium or moderated swells with a long board. Short but fun rides. It works best at medium tide.
Jacarandas A right breaking wave with very nice shape, especially during the beginning of the surf Season. It can be surf on swells from 2 foot up to 9 foot. It is greatly affected by wind coming from the South, but even with wind you can enjoy very good rides on nicely shaped waves from its first and main point right in front of the rocks, for those adventurous ones, or from its second point, which is mellower and doesn’t require tons of skill to surf from there, unfortunately the rides are not as long.
Barron It has very nice waves that are created by the draft of a river mouth. It has very good waves that break both left and right. It is pretty unconsistent and requires very special conditions to work well.

Extra Activities
Activities
Surfing is the main attraction, but just in case you are tired or are looking for something different to do, our guides will take you out to enjoy some of the other activities that Mazatlan has to offer.
Food and Drinks
Eating and drinking in Mazatlan can be as diverse or traditional as you want. At the Plaza Machado, restaurants line the square, and range from gourmet hamburgers to shrimp pizzas. And along with the taco stands, the Zona Dorada offers everything from fresh sushi all the way to Prime Rib. But in Mazatlan, seafood is King. Being one of the World's largest shrimp producers, seafood of all shapes and sizes can be found on practically every menu. And since most of the locally owned restaurants catch their fish and oysters daily, the prices are extremely reasonable. Some of the favorite local dishes include Campechana, Aguachile, Ceviche, mahi-mahi, and lobster.
Known as the "Pearl of the Pacific", Mazatlan is located on Mexico's northern Pacific coast, in the cultural and historic state of Sinaloa. With a population of about 400,000 people, Mazatlan is Mexico's largest commercial port and a popular destination for tourist from around the world.
With it's miles of palm tree lined shores, golden beaches, and hospitable locals, Mazatlan is one of Mexico's best kept secrets.
Free Activities

Cliff Divers
The famous cliff divers risk their lives performing in front of crowds of people almost daily. For only a few pesos from the tourist that stop to watch, they jump from a high cliff into the ocean with perfection. Located along the Malecon, near Playa Sur.

The islands around Mazatlan are a great place to go snorkeling and take a look at the underwater side of Mazatlan. Go to Deer Island, Stone Island, Bird Island, and even Goat Island and enjoy some of the best views in town.
Extra Activities
Huanaco & Tequila Tour
The Los Osuna Blue Agave factory is the only tequila factory that is still in operation in the state of Sinaloa. Located about an hour north of Mazatlan, the Los Osuna tour shows you the tequila making process, samples of their fine tequila, and a history of the factory. They also sell their bottled "Distilado 100% Agave Azul" (100% distilled blue agave), and since you can only buy it in Sinaloa, it is the ideal place to buy it.
Price: $75, two tours in the same place.
Huana - Coa Canopy/Adventure (Zip-Line)
The Huana Coa Canopy Adventure is located in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains on the grounds of the Los Osuna Blue Agave Plantation, about 45 minutes from our surfcamp. The Tour consists of twelve platforms mounted in the trees and hilltops of the semi-desert tropical forest. Their highly-trained personnel help you use high angle equipment and techniques to move from platform to platform by means of nine horizontal traverses, a nature walk, a flexible, elevated walkway and a vertical descent. The tour begins and ends near the 130 year old former ranch house and you will travel to the tour elements in a 6 X 6 all-terrain, Swiss military vehicle known as a "Pinzgauer" passing over trails with up to 50 degrees of slope. Throughout the Tour we will tell you about local flora and fauna and the region where the Tour is located. After completing the Canopy Adventure participants will enjoy a tour of the Los Osuna Blue Agave Distillery.
Parasailing
Go sailing high above the ocean and enjoy some of the best views you will see. Parasailing is when you are attached to a parachute which is attached to the back of a boat, and you are pulled into the air and taken on a breathtaking tour of the air above Mazatlan. From about 300 ft. in the air, you can see all of the city and the islands that are just off the coast, so be sure to take a camera.
Sailing / Catamarans
Sailing and riding on a catamaran around Mazatlan and over to La Isla de Pierna -"Stone Island"- can be one of the most peaceful and relaxing ways to spend a day in Mazatlan. It is a perfect way to get a unique view of the city, enjoy a few drinks, or just soak up the sun.
Prices: Adults $35, Childrens $20
Boogie Boarding
Both boogie boarding and body boarding are a great way to enjoy the waves along the shores of Mazatlan. After a long day of surfing, it can be a more relaxing way to still enjoy the ocean and ride the waves.
Deep Sea Fishing
Known as the "Sailfish and Marlin Capital of the World", Mazatlan is quite possibly one of the best places on earth to go deep sea fishing. Sailfish, Blue or Black or Striped Marlin, Swordfish, Dorado, Rooster Fish, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Stripe, Mahi Mahi and Shark are all found in these waters, depending on the season.
Golf
With it's tropical weather, golfing can be enjoyed in Mazatlan any time of the year. At Estrella Del Mar you can enjoy both beautiful scenery and a Robert Trent Jones Jr. 18-hole championship golf course . It's is a golfer's dream come true.

This tour takes you through the colonial villages of Concordia and Malpica, up to the town of Copala. This small town is located in the Sierra Madre mountains, and is a beautiful place to visit. It's one of the best ways to explore the outskirts of Mazatlan, and enjoy the beauty of Sinaloa.
Prices: Adults $50, Childrens $30
El Quelite Tour
This picturesque town is located about 30 miles northeast of Mazatlan. It is full of beautiful cobble stone streets, tropical trees and flowers. With it's colorful houses and tile topped roofs, it's no wonder that it inspired the song by Francisco Terriquez "Que Bonito es El Quelite" (How Beautiful is El Quelite).
I found the Mazatlan trip to be a great deal. Roberto and Crew had us up and on the road each morning. We surfed spots way out of Mazatlan depending on the swell and wind. We even surfed the so called "Sinaloa" boat spot which is accessable by car. Great food and spacious accomidations. Recommend it as a quick get away from So Cal with out much effort.
